Being one of the most utilized spaces of your home, the staircase plays a crucial role in interior design. Serving not only as a functional pathway between floors, the staircase may be used to enhance the architectural appeal and overall atmosphere of your home. This is especially true in our Aspen Spring Estates showhome.

It was a thoughtful collaboration by our Interior Design Team Lead, Tricha Hamstra, and Drafting Team Lead, Duc Le, to make the staircase in our showhome the centerpiece to the overall character of the home. “We wanted to push the envelope. Design choices like the 3cm quartize slab landing and waterfall, in particular, was something that we had never seen before.”

With this idea in mind, choosing the right partner to make the vision come true was essential. That’s why we chose Artistic Stairs. “They were game to try something new and a bit outlandish, which we really appreciated. They never said no to the idea and instead ran with it,” Hamstra said about the partnership.

Together, we chose the appropriate materials of the Aspen Spring showhome staircase, which include:

• Stone: the landing and waterfall is a natural quartzite slab that is leathered. We were drawn to the unique colour and pattern of the stone, and the leathered finish ensured no slip.
• Stair Treads: natural oak, stained matched to the hardwood in the rest of the home.
• Stringer & Handrail: black metal to provide a warm contrast to the natural oak tread.
• Glass instead of spindles: to create an open, airy feel.

All of the Shane homeowners in Aspen Spring Estates will work alongside their Area Manager and Artistic Stairs for the structure and selections associated with their staircases. The homeowners have the choice of sticking with the standard staircase in the plan – choosing rails, brackets, spindles, etc. – or deciding to make a statement piece to rival the staircase in our showhome.
