Tips to Add Pizzazz to Your Home Compliments of Shane Homes’ Interior Design Team

Design November 24, 2016

With the shorter darker days, we tend to spend more time at home.

Here are some tips to add some pizzazz to your home compliments of Shane Homes’ Interior Design Team

Kitchen Backsplash Features

One of the benefits of the popularity of front control slide in ranges, is the vertical wall space freed up behind  it to create a feature in the kitchen. Use a contrasting tile from the backsplash to create an eye-catching  focal point or use the same wall tile but play with the patterns for a more subtle feature.

Half Bath

Create alot of interest in a small space like the half bath by removing the standard oval mirror and replacing it with a  framed mirror and creating a feature wall with decorative wall paper.

Dining Table Ideas: Accessorizing

You don’t always have to set a dining table with cutlery and plate settings. Why not change it up with a ladder shelf that holds the plate set, glasses, and napkins.  Also, add a free standing chalkboard menu and some candles that you can light during dinner.

Dining Table Ideas: Bench Seating

Create a more casual feel in the dining nook area and allow for extra seating, by adding a bench rather than the standard four chairs. You can also create a focal point to your dining space by using 4 traditional chairs and 2 non traditional chairs that are larger in scale and stand out from the rest.

Black Finish Lighting

Lighting is key design element in a home.  Dramatically change the way a room looks and feels with black finish lighting.  Its a bold color that stands out from its surroundings.

Coloured/Patterned Furniture

The sofa tends to be at the center of any family room living space.  Match the sofa to the rest of the decor or add a pop of color matching the accessories or artwork in the space.  Blue is a timeless color which was used in the decorating scheme in our Midtown in Airdrie street town showhome.

Ottoman

Ottomans are becoming the focal point of rooms.  Add  a pattern to this piece of furniture to create interest and have fun by adding pillows of different sizes and textures and layering them.  An added bonus is the extra storage space created to tuck away spare blankets and bedding.

Bedroom

Are you tired of your bedroom décor?  Add a pop of color in the heardboard, pillows and/or drapery.  Changing your headboard is an afforadable way to add a huge impact to the bedroom and also softens the room when it’s next to all the hard goods such as the nightstands and dressers, creating a more relaxing environment to enjoy a good night’s sleep.
